Eternal Wings

"They say malformed wings are a sign of a malformed heart..."

Rebellious Kalas and his guardian spirit are out for revenge against the man who killed his grandfather and younger brother. On the floating continent of Sadal Suud, he meets a girl on a mission to save the world from the wicked plans of the Empire of the Flame. Against his wishes, he soon finds himself embroiled in a quest to find a mysterious, evil power that lies hidden in the continents of the sky...

...Or is the story as simple as that?

My second entry for 's Mary Ann Cosplay Contest. The contest is to draw his character, Mary Ann Tigress, dressed up as another character. This entry (which I decided to go ahead with only 2 days before the contest ended, and which I submitted a day later) is of Mary Ann (crossplaying?) as Kalas, the main character of Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, an RPG that was exclusive to the Gamecube. Although not very high-profile, it's fun to play thanks to its card-based combat and item system, and was popular enough to warrant a sequel.

I'm almost convinced Kalas' name is a bilingual pun. It sounds like "callous", which could be a description of his attitude. It also sounds like "karasu", the Japanese word for 'crow', which is fitting considering the 'unlucky' reputation of that bird and the quote at the top of the page, which refers to Kalas being born with only one natural 'wing of the heart'.
